Minister of Planning and International Cooperation meets with Acting Director General of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan met with His Excellency Mr. Walid Shamlan Al-Bahar, Acting Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, and his accompanying delegation visiting the Kingdom on an official working visit to discuss the development of bilateral development relations between the Government of Jordan the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

Minister Toukan began the meeting by extending the Jordanian government's thanks and appreciation to the sisterly State of Kuwait for the continuous support stemming from the strong and distinguished bilateral relations. The Minister stressed that the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development is one of Jordan's development partners, whether through the management of grants provided by the Kuwaiti government or through concessional loans provided by the Fund, as the volume of development cooperation with the Kuwait Fund during the period (1962-2024) amounted to about (2.1) billion dollars, of which about (1.33) billion were in the form of grants to finance priority development projects and support Syrian refugees, and about (778) million dollars in the form of loans with concessional financing terms.

During the meeting, the progress of work on several projects under implementation and funded by the Fund was discussed, in addition to the efforts made by the Fund at this stage, by starting discussions on the third phase within the pledges of the Makkah Summit for 2018, which resulted in the initialing of two financing agreements for a project to develop public education infrastructure with value (10) million KWD, and the rehabilitation of roads and bridges project with value (10) million KWD within the framework of the economic modernization vision.

For his part, His Excellency the Director General of the Fund stressed the Kuwaiti government's constant interest in providing support for development efforts in Jordan, he stressed the Fund's continued provision of all possible forms of support to enable the government to implement priority economic and development plans and programs, to allow the government to overcome economic and financial challenges and enable it to provide basic services to citizens.
