Jordan participates in the ninth meeting of the ESCWA Executive Committee in Tunisia

18/12/2024 - Secretary-General of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Marwan Al-Rifai, headed the Jordanian delegation participating in the ninth meeting of the Executive Committee of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), held in the Tunisian capital during the period 18-19/12/2024, in the presence of Dr. Rola Dashti, Executive Secretary of ESCWA.

The meeting discussed the implementation of the decisions issued by the thirty-first session held in Cairo in December 2024 and reviewed the activities of the Arab Center for Climate Change Policies and the ESCWA Technology Center, technical cooperation programs for the years 2023-2024, and the proposed program plan for 2026. The meeting also addressed important issues including the repercussions of the war on Gaza, effective economic governance, modernization of public administration, and the outcomes of the Future Summit held last September, in addition to the outcomes of the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development for 2024.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation stressed the importance that Jordan attaches to ESCWA and emphasized its role in providing technical support and capacity-building to achieve economic and social development and sustainable development goals.

He pointed out areas in which ESCWA provided support to Jordan, such as economic modeling, technology for development, sustainable development, and social protection, expressing the Kingdom’s aspiration to continue cooperation with ESCWA, especially in priority economic and social areas, and to implement the Economic Modernization Vision and its executive program.
