Jordan Signs Host Country Agreement for Global Green Growth Institute Office

(Amman, 6 August 2025) – In a move underscoring Jordan’s commitment to advancing a green economy, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Zeina Toukan,  signed the Host Country Agreement for the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) on behalf of the Jordanian government. The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Environment, Muawieh Khalid Radaideh, with Mr. Christophe Assicot, GGGI’s Country Representative in Jordan, signing on behalf of the Institute.

The agreement paves the way for the formal establishment of a GGGI office in Jordan, offering sustained technical and institutional support to the government and relevant national stakeholders. The presence of the Institute is expected to bolster the development of policies and plans aligned with Jordan’s environmental and economic priorities, while enhancing the country’s capacity to access green finance, through the preparation of well-structured, eligible projects.

This agreement assumes strategic importance in facilitating the development and execution of Jordan’s National Green Growth Plan, as well as the associated sectoral action plans. It positions the transition to a green economy as  a strategic imperative, development priority, and a cornerstone of Jordan’s modernization agenda. The establishment of the office is anticipated to catalyze green investment in critical sectors such as sustainable transport, renewable energy, and climate-smart agriculture, in addition to advancing economic growth in line with the Economic Modernization Vision. It will also strengthen intergovernmental coordination, build national capacities through training and knowledge exchange, and support the implementation of international agreements, most notably the Paris Agreement, a legally binding international treaty on climate change.

Jordan joined GGGI in 2014, and cooperation between the two parties has since evolved significantly. Joint efforts have included the development of the National Green Growth Plan and the 2021-2025 Action Plans, encompassing initiatives such as electric public transport, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and improved access to climate finance.

Founded in 2010 and formalized as a treaty-based international organization during the Rio+20 Earth Summit in 2012, the Global Green Growth Institute is headquartered in Seoul, Republic of Korea. As of 2024, it comprises over fifty member countries. The Institute supports developing and emerging economies in transitioning to green growth models that balance economic development with environmental sustainability and social inclusion through technical assistance, project design and implementation, investment mobilization, and institutional capacity building.
