Government-Backed Telecom Centre Opens in Ma’an

In a move that underscores Jordan’s push toward inclusive local development, a new subscriber services centre operated by Umniah Telecom has opened in the southern governorate of Ma’an. The initiative is backed by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, the Vocational Training Corporation, and Umniah,  a subsidiary of the Beyon Group.

The launch ceremony was attended by Marwan Rifai, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, alongside Khaldoun Sweidan, Chief Commercial Officer at Umniah, and Ahmad Al-Gharaibeh, Director General of the Vocational Training Corporation.

The centre forms part of a broader government strategy to support entrepreneurial initiatives that build capacities, generate sustainable employment, and improve customer service.

Rifai noted that the ministry’s funding aligns with its mandate to promote productive, locally anchored projects, stressing the importance of private-sector engagement in driving development.

Sweidan highlighted the centre’s role in delivering high-standard telecom services, equipped with cutting-edge technology and staffed by locally trained personnel. The training, conducted in collaboration with the Vocational Training Corporation, aims to equip young people with advanced professional skills.

Al-Gharaibeh, for his part, reaffirmed the Corporation’s commitment to preparing youth for the labour market through specialised training programmes. He described the tripartite partnership as a model for effective collaboration in the development sphere.

The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation provided the financial support for the centre’s establishment, while the Vocational Training Corporation contributed the site and infrastructure to ensure operational continuity
