3/2/2026 - Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Zeina Toukan, met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Dr. Barham Salih, discussions focused on ways to further enhance cooperation between the Government of Jordan with UNHCR and on the importance of continued support to host countries. The meeting was attended by Sheri Ritsema-Anderson, UN Resident Coordinator in Jordan; Rima Jamous, UNHCR’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa; and Maria Stavropoulou, UNHCR’s Representative in Jordan.

Toukan expressed appreciation to the existing collaboration between Jordan and UNHCR in providing essential services to refugees, while emphasizing the challenges faced as a result of declining international support and impact on refugee support programmes. Toukan reiterated the importance of collective efforts to create conditions conducive to voluntary, safe and dignified return.

For his part, Dr. Salih expressed appreciation for Jordan’s humanitarian role, efforts in hosting refugees and ensuring access to basic services, as well as for the level of coordination with the Government of Jordan.
