 Bilateral Relations between Jordan and Kuwait fund

The Fund was established in December 1961 as a Kuwaiti institution to provide and manage financial and technical assistance to developing countries. The Kuwaiti Fund is regarded as a key partner in supporting the development process in Jordan.

During the past few years, Jordan has established itself as one of the most eligible recipient countries to receive assistance from the Kuwaiti Fund. The assistance committed is provided in the form of soft loans and grants to finance and implement key projects in various sectors. During the period 1962-2010, the Fund has extended a total amount of US$ 523.7 million as soft loans to finance 24 priority development projects in various sectors.

Areas of Assistance

The Fund’s soft loans and grants (to prepare feasibility studies) focus on the following sectors:

  • Industry.
  • Water.
  • Infrastructure.
  • Health.
  • Education.

Ongoing Projects funded by the Kuwaiti Fund

The Fund has financed several priority development projects, which had a substantive impact in supporting the efforts of the Government of Jordan in the development process. Ongoing projects include:

A. Projects funded through soft loans:

1. Samra Electric Power Generating Plant (phase III): expanding the electric power generating plant to meet the growing demand for electricity.

2. Expanding East Amman Power Station: supporting the east Amman energy transmission network.

3. Aqaba Hospital project: improving healthcare and medical services provided to citizens in Aqaba Governorate.

B. Projects funded through grants:

1.    ALMafraq- ALSafawi- Iraqi border Highway Feasibility Studies.

2.    Feasibility Studies for a Wastewater Treatment Plant in Amman.
